A fast-track development of 330,000 sf of class A office space in the International District of Downtown Seattle. Intended to integrate well into its historic neighborhood and make a modern statement with traditional materials, this pair of buildings had to also meet a very aggressive design and construction schedule and the unique issues of building over a metro tunnel.
The lantern-like lobbies of each building face one another across an “outdoor lobby”, a protected and intimate space along a pedestrian corridor. Painted steel channels create a large scale frame at the base, and the body of the facade is made up of prefabricated brick panels and crisply detailed aluminum windows with precast concrete sills, with feature steel reappearing at the top, under a deep shadow-casting cap of precast concrete.Opus Center @ Union Station, Commercial Office Buildings.
